Artist: Dudi Bar-David
About The Artist:
Dudi Bar-David is an artist, musician and singer-songwriter born in Lod, Israel. Now living in Tel Aviv, he has been performing for over three years with his band and had built a very loyal audience, coming regularly to his concerts and waiting eagerly for his debut album “LEHISHAR,” due to be released soon. Bar-David has chosen to support the Pioneers For A Cure project with the song “Bein Holot Midbar.”
Song: Bein Holot Midbar
Contribution to: Dana-Dwek Children’s Hospital
Bein Cholot Midbar is a wonderful example of the process that transmits popular songs quickly and easily — but inevitably leaves behind the identity of the composer and lyricist. The musical style is of the late yishuv, and the lyrics reflect the values and language of the era: “Walk with me through the length and breadth of our new land. Don’t worry, I’ll be with you — I am a ‘Hebrew soldier’.” As with many songs that are transmitted orally, variant versions of the lyric are extant, and one known as “Yocheved” substitutes that name for the anonymous “yaldonet” (little girl). The song was included on one of several 1958 albums by Tsadok Savir, a singer and comedian at the height of his (somewhat short-lived) popularity.
