Song: Tapuach Zahav
Contribution to: Israel Children’s Cancer Foundation
Composer, music critic and educator Menashe (Rabinovitch) Ravina (1899-1968) believed in the power of community singing, establishing regular gatherings for that purpose in Tel Aviv as early as 1919. His Tapuach Zahav found fame as a “postcard” issued by the Keren Kayemet to promote the music of the yishuv throughout the Diaspora, and to raise money in support of the homeland. The words are by Shmuel Bass (1899-1949), a Russian born writer who made aliyah with his family in 1906, and went on to compose lyric poetry that rhapsodized about the natural beauty of Eretz Yisrael.
